Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app
- Open your profile (the person icon in the tab bar). Tap the menu button at the top right, then tap Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. It is the last row, below Pause My Account.
- Read "What gets deleted" and "What stays, and why", then tap Continue.
- Enter your current password and tap Continue.
- Type DELETE in capital letters, then tap Delete My Account. If the password was wrong, the app says "Incorrect password" and takes you back to the password step to try again.
- The Deletion Scheduled screen shows the date and time after which your account is erased. Erasure runs on a schedule, so it can happen later than the time shown. Tap Done. This signs you out on this phone.
What happens during the 30-day window
From the moment you confirm, your account is hidden from everyone else. Your profile, posts, Drops, Ripples, comments and messages stop appearing anywhere in the app. Your likes no longer count in the Likes total on other people's profiles. If you are the only owner of a page, that page is hidden too. Your other devices are signed out soon afterwards.
Nothing is deleted yet. The approximate location Pamojah keeps for Nearby Drops notifications is removed straight away.
To change your mind, sign back in before the date shown on the Deletion Scheduled screen. Signing in cancels the deletion. The app shows "Welcome back" and everything is restored as you left it, including your videos, Drops and followers. A page you own comes back too, unless Pamojah took it down. If another device is still signed in, it may show a banner at the top of the app with the date. You can tap Reactivate on that banner instead.
After 30 days, your account is permanently erased. Pamojah removes your name, username, email address, password, bio, profile photo, website, date of birth, interests, muted categories, the stickers in My Stickers and your login activity. Your posts, Ripples, Drops, comments and the messages you sent are removed from the app. The video files and thumbnails behind your posts and Drops are not deleted from storage. Your invite code (Settings > Invite friends) is disabled. If you had a For Real mark, it is removed and the details from your application are redacted. Once your account has been erased, your sign-in details no longer work and nothing can be recovered.
Some records stay, with your name removed. Your Street Cred votes stay as anonymous votes, so past charts and Originator claims stay accurate. Reports you sent about other people stay. Replies other people left on your Drops stay, and messages other people sent you are kept, although the conversation no longer appears in their app once your account is hidden. The count of people who joined with your invite code stays. Links you shared to other people's posts keep opening while those posts are visible. Links to your own posts stop opening once your account is hidden. None of the records that are kept carry your name, username or email address.
If you can't sign in
If you cannot get into the app to delete your account, email privacy@pamojah.com from the email address on the account and include your username. An account that has already been erased cannot be restored.
Good to know
- Pausing is different. Settings > Pause My Account hides your account from everyone else, deletes nothing and has no deadline. You stay signed in and can keep watching, but you cannot post, comment or leave Drops. Signing in does not un-pause your account. Tap Reactivate on the banner at the top of the app when you want to come back. No password is needed to pause. See Pausing your account.
- You can delete a paused account. The 30 days count from the day you ask for deletion, not from the day you paused.
- A suspended account can still be deleted.
- If your account holds a staff role on Pamojah, the app refuses to pause or delete it until an admin removes the role.
- While your account is hidden, your invite code (Settings > Invite friends) stops working. It works again if you restore your account.
- Your posts and Drops come back untouched if you restore. They are removed only after the 30 days.
- Only the messages you sent are removed. The messages the other person sent are kept, but the conversation disappears from their app once your account is hidden.
- A page with another owner stays up, unless that owner is also deleting their account. You are removed from the page as an admin when your account is erased. A page you owned alone comes back if you restore. Its posts are removed only once no owner can return.
- A For Real mark stays attached to a hidden account and returns when you restore. It is removed only when the account is erased.
