How Pamojah works, in plain words, for someone opening the app for the first time.

Getting started

Joining with an invite, your profile, and the two feeds.

  • Joining with an invite code

Pamojah is in closed beta. The sign up screen tells you whether you need an invite code. If it does, ask a friend on Pamojah for their code and enter it at the top of the form.

  • Setting up your profile

A new profile has no photo or bio, and your name is your username. Open the Profile tab, tap the menu at the top right and choose Edit Profile. There you can add a photo, a name and a bio.

  • The For You and Following feeds

The Feed tab has three views at the top: For You, Following and Drops. For You shows public videos from across Pamojah. Following shows the newest posts from the people and pages you follow.

  • What makes Pamojah different

Pamojah gives credit for content you started and lets the community vote on that credit. It ranks posts in a way you can read, and it lets you leave posts at real places. Here is the short version of each idea.

Creating

Recording, editing, AR effects, who can see a post, Ripples, Stitch and Duet.

  • Recording and editing a video

Tap the + tab to open the camera. Record in clips, then trim, add text and stickers, fill in the details and tap Publish.

  • AR effects

Tap Effects on the camera to record with an AR effect. Street Cred floats a crown above your head, and Wave Connect or Pulse Burst place a Pamojah card in the room around you. World Drops are not available yet.

  • Who can see your post

You choose an Audience for each post on the Details screen: Public, Followers Only, Private or Unlisted. Only Public posts appear in For You, search and Currents, and only Public posts can be shared outside Pamojah.

  • Ripples

A Ripple is a casual video that disappears after 24 hours. It shows in the row of circles at the top of the Feed for people who follow you. It does not count toward Originator, Street Cred, Pulse or Currents.

  • Stitch and Duet

A Stitch opens your video with up to 5 seconds of someone else's. A Duet records you alongside their video. Both start from the Share to sheet, and each creator chooses who can use their videos this way.

Charts and discovery

Currents, Pulse, and why a post is ranked where it is.

  • Currents and the charts

Currents is the wave tab. It holds this month's charts, from Hot 100 to Brand 50. Tap any post on a chart to see the signals behind its position.

  • Pulse

Pulse shows the posts that have just moved the most on the charts, plus the polls and questions getting the most votes and answers right now. Open it from Currents, or from the flame button on a video in your feed.

  • Why is this post ranked here

Tap any post on a Currents chart to open Chart Signals, the watch, sharing and conversation numbers behind its position. Pamojah shows the signals, not the exact weights.

  • Monthly resets

Every Currents chart counts watches, shares, saves, likes and comments from the current calendar month. On the 1st the count starts again, so each month is a new lane for new creators.

Live

Going live and watching a stream.

  • Going live

Open the camera, pick Live on the strip under the shutter, give your stream a title and tap Go Live. People watch through the link you share. Tap End Live when you are done.

  • Watching a live stream

You need the creator's live link. Open it in a web browser, or paste it into Watch a Live in the app (the radio waves icon at the top of the Feed).

Pages

A page for a business, nonprofit or campaign, and posting as it.

  • Creating a page

A page is a posting identity for a business, nonprofit, campaign or brand. You create it from Settings > Account > Your Pages and run it from your own account. A page has no login of its own.

  • Posting as a page

When you publish a video, the Details screen lets you choose whether it appears from your own account or from a page you run. A post published as a page shows the page's name and photo, not yours.

  • Page admins

A page is run by people with a role on it. Owners and admins can both edit the page and post as it. Only an owner can add or remove people, and a page needs at least one owner.

For Real (FR)

The blue FR mark, applying, the public registry, and expiry.

  • What the blue FR mark means

A blue FR mark next to a name means Pamojah has confirmed who is behind that account or page. It says nothing about whether their videos are original. Originator and Street Cred cover that.

  • Applying for For Real

Apply from Settings > Account > For Real identity verification. Choose a category, enter the evidence Pamojah should check, and submit. A person at Pamojah reviews it, and it is free.

  • The public FR registry

The FR registry is a public list of every account and page with an active For Real check. Anyone can read it at pamojah.com/registry, with no Pamojah account. In the app it is under Settings > About > FR Registry. Each entry shows the category, the dates and the kind of record that was checked.

  • When For Real expires

Every For Real check has an expiry date. When it passes, the FR mark goes and the entry leaves the registry. You can re-verify in the 30 days before it expires, and Pamojah shows a banner to remind you.

Messages

Direct messages.

  • Direct messages

You can send text messages to another person on Pamojah from their profile. Your conversations are behind the speech-bubble icon at the top of the Feed.

Sharing outside Pamojah

Sending a post to other apps, as a link or as a video.

  • Sharing a post outside Pamojah

You can send a Public post to other apps as a link, or as the video itself when downloads are allowed for it. Tap Share on the video, then tap an app in the top row.

Safety and your account

Reporting, blocking, pausing, deleting, downloads and notifications.

  • Reporting, blocking and muting

Report a post with the flag on a video, or tap Share and then Report. You can also report Drops, comments, profiles, pages and conversations. Block or mute a person from the menu on their profile: a block hides you from each other, and a mute only affects their Drops.

  • Pausing your account

Pause My Account hides your account from everyone else without deleting anything, and you stay signed in. Come back by tapping Reactivate on the banner at the top of the app. Signing in again does not un-pause you.

  • Deleting your account

Settings > Delete Account hides your account right away and erases it for good 30 days later. Sign back in before that date and everything is restored.

  • Downloads and who can save your videos

Settings > Privacy > Allow downloads decides whether other people can save your Public videos and share them to other apps as a file. You can change it for one post under Share > Downloads. Downloads off is not copy protection.

  • Notification settings

Settings > Notifications has a Push Notifications switch and a Notification Preferences screen. There you choose which events notify you: Messages, Likes, New Followers, Poll Votes, Drop Replies, Nearby Drops and Originator Status Changes. The iPhone's own permission for Pamojah lives in the iPhone Settings app.

Troubleshooting

When something is not working.

  • Notifications are not arriving

Pamojah can only notify you when your iPhone allows notifications for Pamojah and the switch for that kind of alert is on in the app. Check the iPhone setting first, then Pamojah's own switches.

  • Location permission for Drops

Placing a Drop and seeing Drops near you need your iPhone's location. If it is off, tap Open Settings where Pamojah says so, then choose While Using the App under Location. Choose Always if you want Nearby Drops alerts while the app is closed.

  • Trouble signing in

On the Log In screen, enter your email or username and your password. "Invalid credentials" means one of them is wrong. If you forgot your password, tap "Forgot password?" and Pamojah emails you a code to choose a new one.
