Steps

  1. Tap the Profile tab, then the menu button (three dots) at the top right, then Settings. Scroll to the bottom and tap Pause My Account. It sits just above Delete Account.
  2. Read the screen. It says what a pause does and how to come back.
  3. Tap Pause My Account at the bottom. There is no password to enter.
  4. A banner appears at the top of the app: "Your account is paused". It stays on every tab until you reactivate.

Good to know

  • While you are paused, nobody can see your profile, your posts or your Drops. Anyone you have a conversation with can still read it, with your name shown as "Account unavailable". They cannot send you new messages until you come back. You stop appearing in feeds, in search and in follower lists. Posts you published as a page stay on the page, and the page stays up.
  • Nothing is deleted. Your videos, messages and followers stay as they are, and they come back when you return. Ripples still disappear 24 hours after you post them.
  • You stay signed in and can keep watching and reading. Until you come back, you cannot post, comment, leave Drops, send messages, follow people or share posts. A few other things are off too. Posting a video, commenting, sending a message or sharing shows "Your account is paused. Reactivate it to start posting again." Other screens may show a general error, or nothing at all.
  • You do not receive push notifications while paused.
  • There is no deadline. A paused account is not deleted, however long you leave it.
  • Signing in does not un-pause your account. If you sign out and back in, or sign in on another phone, you are still paused. The way back is the Reactivate button on the banner. Your account is visible again straight away.
  • Pausing is different from deleting. If you want your account erased, see Deleting your account.
