Pamojah usually says when location is the problem. The Drop screen says "A drop needs your location to pin itself to this spot. Allow location access in Settings and try again." In the Drops feed, For You says "Turn on location to see drops near you". Under Reply with a Drop, the app says "Turn on location access for Pamojah to reply with a drop at this spot." With Nearby Drops on, Pamojah's Settings > Notifications > Notification Preferences says "Location permission is off for Pamojah, so nearby alerts can't work." Each of these shows an Open Settings button when location is turned off for Pamojah.
Steps
- Tap Open Settings where Pamojah says location is off. Your iPhone's Settings opens at Pamojah. Tap Location.
- If Location Services is off for the whole iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and turn on the switch at the top. You can also tap Pamojah in the list of apps there.
- Choose While Using the App. This is enough to place a Drop, see Drops near you, use Look Around and reply with a Drop.
- Choose Always instead if you want Nearby Drops alerts while the app is closed. The Nearby Drops switch in Pamojah's Settings > Notifications > Notification Preferences must be on too.
- Leave Precise Location on. Without it your location is far less exact, and the Drop screen can refuse to post.
- Go back to Pamojah. Open the Drop screen again, or pull down to reload the Drops feed.
Good to know
- Pamojah does not ask for location when you log in. Your iPhone asks the first time you open the Drop screen or turn on Nearby Drops. It also asks when you tap Turn on location in the Drops feed's For You. The question says: "Pamojah uses your location to pin drops to real places and show you drops placed nearby."
- Your iPhone asks about allowing location all the time only when you turn on Nearby Drops. If it has not asked before, it asks about While Using the App first. If Always is not in the list in iPhone Settings, choose While Using the App, then turn Nearby Drops on in Pamojah. If it is already on, turn it off and on again.
- If Pamojah is not in the Location Services list, it has not asked yet. Open the Drop screen or tap Turn on location in For You, and your iPhone asks.
- Open Settings takes you to iPhone Settings. Make the change there and come back to Pamojah.
- The rest of Pamojah works as usual without location, and so does Following in the Drops feed.
- Permission is not the only problem. Indoors, or with a poor signal, the Drop screen can say your location is not accurate enough to place a drop right now. Step outside or somewhere with a clearer view of the sky and try again.
- View in AR appears on a Drop card only when your phone is close to the spot, so it needs your location too.
- Look Around and Reply with a Drop check your location only while that screen is open.
